Top LinkedIn Marketing Tactics

Send Links to Your Site

You can link to your site from your LinkedIn profile. This offers some immediate search engine benefit. If you market your profile correctly, it can also become a direct source of traffic to your site. The default link names are “My Blog” and “My Website,” but you can change these names to whatever you want by clicking on Edit and Other. You place up to three links at this location, and use whatever anchor text you want for keyword optimization.

Make Your Profile Public

In order for people to find your LinkedIn profile through the search engines, you’ll need to make your profile public. Change this under your settings.

Take Advantage of Q&A

This is one of the most powerful tools on the site. You can use it to develop a reputation as an expert in your field and send traffic to your site. Search for questions that relate to your site answer them with a link to a post on your site. If you don’t have a blog post that answers the question, write one. This process helps you build reputations with influential people and sends more traffic to your site. You might also consider posing a question and answering it yourself if you can’t find the questions you are looking for.

Install Your Blog Feed

Import your blog feed into LinkedIn. This will keep all of your connections updated on the latest news on your blog. Since LinkedIn profiles are easy to rank in the search engines, this also brings traffic straight to your blog. At the bottom right side of your LinkedIn homepage is a button that says “Add an Application.” The WordPress app makes this process incredibly easy, and Blog Link makes it simple to import your blog if it isn’t powered by WordPress. This simple step ensures that your LinkedIn profile stays active and engaging.

Incorporate Slideshare

If you use Slideshare to promote PowerPoint presentations, this is a powerful tool for cross promotion. You can use this to seamlessly incorporate slide shows into your profile for a more professional interface. This can also be found under “Add an Application.”

Import Your Twitter Feed

Using “Add an Application” you can also include a widget on your LinkedIn profile that keeps visitors updated on your tweets. Assuming you use Twitter to share relevant information on the web, this is another useful tool.

Advertise Your Profile

LinkedIn offers the option of direct ad campaigns on the site. You can use these ads to draw in educated professionals. This is a great way to build relationships with highly motivated people that are interested in topics you are promoting. The average household income of people on the site is over $100,000, so you are dealing with a completely different demographic than people on Facebook or Twitter. The relationships that you build on this network will continue to pay off for years to come.

You don’t need a large advertising budget to run a campaign through LinkedIn. You can choose to pay by impressions or clicks, and the minimum campaign cost is only $50. You can tailor the ads so that they only display for certain demographics. You can choose from factors such as company size, type of job, industry, and seniority. Targeted ads are more likely to put you in touch with the right kinds of professionals.

Capitalize on Events

LinkedIn events get people face to face with each other so that they can make things happen. Fostering these kinds of relationships will prove even more valuable that online cooperation. You don’t need be a host in order to create an event on the network. You can simply use LinkedIn to let people know about an event that you are planning about going to. Searching through events is also a great way to learn about what is currently happening in your industry and where to go in order to meet up with influential people.
